AN Alnwick boxer has tasted glory after battling to become a regional title holder.
Talented Cyrus Pattinson has been crowned North East Region Light Middleweight Champion at 70kg in the Children and Young People Championships (CYP).
He battled to a convincing points victory to beat Liam Cahill.
The 17-year-old has progressed to the competition’s next stage in Wakefield, with an eye to going all the way to the final to become national champ.
Pattinson, from St Michael’s Square, defeated the much-fancied Cahill by 39 points to 10.
Going into the contest, Cahill, of the Phil Thomas School of Boxing, had a record of 20 wins from 28 bouts, compared to Pattinson’s five victories from five. Pattinson impressed the knowledgeable crowd, especially in the way he handed out a first-class boxing lesson at Cahill’s expense.
The Alnwick lad has also been selected for a place at Gateshead Boxing Academy where he is now combining his boxing development with his further education at the college.
