AN Alnwick school has been crowned county champions in the 2011 Under 11 Sportshall Athletics Final.
One hundred and sixty-seven young athletes from eight schools, representing all six of Northumberland’s School Sports Partnerships, competed for the title.
But it was Lindisfarne Middle School, who amassed 294 point to claim the crown.
Joint second, with 288 points, were Amble Middle and Ovingham Middle.
On the track and in the field, the competition was keenly fought with some close races and excellent performances.
Events on the track were the obstacle race, the 1+1 lap relay, the 2+2 lap relay, the six-lap paarlauf, the over-under relay and the 4x1 lap relay.
In the field, athletes competed in the chest push, the speed bounce, the long jump, the triple jump, the vertical jump and the javelin throw.
Support for athletes was noisy and sportsmanlike throughout the two hours of intense competition.
The event was organised by the Northumberland Competition Managers and delivered with Sportshall Associates and officiating by young leaders from King Edward VI School, Morpeth and coaches from Blyth and Alnwick athletics clubs.
Schools taking part were Jackie Milburn Campus, Bedlington Junior High, Whytrig Middle, Chantry Middle, Lindisfarne Middle, Seahouses Middle, Ovingham Middle and last year’s champions Amble Middle.
