Club ends decades of hurt

Alnmouth (Foxton) have been crowned Northumberland County club champions for the first time in 25 years.

The team clinched the title at their home course at Foxton Hall during a rain-soaked day on Saturday.

They were led to victory by Jake Storey, who topped the individual leaderboard with scores of 73 and 74 for 147, one shot ahead of Hexham’s Matty Lamb with 71 and 77 for 148.

The three-man Foxton team included Martin Carss (73,78 for 151) and Richard Gander (76,78 for 154).

Alnmouth will represent Northumberland in the English County Clubs Championship at Trentham GC later in the year.

Unfortunately, they will be without their top man for this event as Storey is embarking on a five-year golf scholarship in America later this summer.
