Club bows out of cups

ALNWICK went out of two Northumberland Bowling Associations Cup competitions at the first hurdle this week.

They were beaten in the Bell Cup, only able to make fourth place in a round robin format.

In the County Challenge Cup on the Amble green they came joint second with the hosts, behind Hexham Elvaston who had one win more.

There was also no good news in the County Nines League when they were beaten by second-placed Gosforth and are now second bottom although with games in hand.

There was no match in the Clegg Cup League.

In the first match in the North Northumberland League, Alnwick lost to Amble but with both scoring 56 shots each, Alnwick were able to claim an extra point with the score at 5-3.

In the only friendly of the week, the club lost to Gosforth by 70 shots to 58.
