Junior windsurfers from across the Royal Yachting Association North East Region gathered at a flat, calm Derwent Reservoir on May 19 for the first meeting in this year’s RYA Team15 Inter-Club Championship.

Gustavo Takiguchi and brother Leo, both from Morpeth but representing the Amble-based Coquet Crushers, put in good performances.

Gustavo, 15, won the 5.8m class while his 13-year-old brother, who only started windsurfing last year, won the techno award in the 4.5m class.

The new Kp

ielder Kestrels team also did well in what was their first full event.

One of the Kestrels’ youngest competitors, 12-year-old Archie Dodd, from County Durham, won the 3.5m class and the Kestrels came third overall, behind Pugneys Pirates and the Derwent Devils.

Informal training sessions take place at T15 clubs all over the country for children up to the age of 15.
