A Wooler man recently retained his title in a cross-country event despite breaking his kneecap at last year’s event.

Chrys Murphy, who works as a sports lecturer at Borders College, has won the Borders Cross-Country senior veterans’ (over 60) title for the second year in a row and also set a record in winning all six races in his group to win the outright title.

Chrys suffered a serious knee injury in the same race last year and was determined to get back to fitness and retain his title this year.

He also runs for and has coached Wooler RC, but competes for Gala Harriers RC in the Borders League.
