Alnwick Bowling Club

An Alnwick ladies bowling triple has won through to the national finals at Leamington Spa later in the year.

Sylvia Dale, Carol Hume and Ann Daley (s) reached the final of the Northumberland County Ladies Triple which automatically gives them entry to the nationals.

Carol said: “We had a very good game to reach the final, beating Ponteland 20-10.”

In earlier rounds they had victories over Amble 23-16 and Lynemouth 23-14.

The men have made a slow start to their league campaign in the Northumberland Nines and Clegg Cup.

In the Nines they lost their first three games against Benfield, Fossway, and Byker Village, but pulled off a one-shot win against High Heaton.

In the Clegg Cup, they lost against Gosforth, Collingwood and High Heaton, but in their most recent game beat the champions and league leaders Backworth by two shots, which was worth 12 points to two. They also lost narrowly in the first round of the Edwardson Cup to Collingwood by one shot.

In the first open competition of the year for the RS Shepherd Pairs, Roger Turnbull and John Hume kept up their success of previous seasons beating father-and-son combination Ian and Alan Hall, also from Alnwick.

In the semi-final Hume beat George Turner and Dougie Miller and the Halls beat Christ Coan and Brian Nichol from High Heaton.
