The inaugural running of Alnwick Castle Golf Club’s Autumn Seniors Cup was won by greenkeeper Billy Brown and his playing partner Ian Watson, with a fine score of 46 points.
Tom Jamieson, Alnwick’s longest-serving member and a past president of the club, presented the trophy, which was donated by himself for the competition, which was held last week.
The winners were a full five points ahead of second-placed Robbie Stevenson,the club captain who is going through a golden patch this year, and Bob Chalmers, the quiet, steady man of the seniors section, who scored 41pts.
In third place on countback were vice-captain Roger Clark and George Stokoe on 40pts.
In other club news, golfers battled it out in the team event – the John Fife Memorial Salver.
The competition, which was played at the weekend, was a three-man texas scramble with teams being drawn.
The winners were Dan Harrison, Ray Baston and Ian Hogg with a brilliant score of 61.2.
Their scorecard included five threes in the first six holes and a two on the par-four 14th.
In second place were Kenny Burn, Gordon Johnstone and John Gaines who returned 61.5.
Completing the leaderboard were Mick Bell,Gerry McInally and Rob Holding on 63.0.
