A blistering first-half performance inspired Alnwick to victory in the traditional festive derby-day clash with Berwick.
The match, played in front of a good crowd at Scremerston on Boxing Day, started briskly with Alnwick taking the game to the home side.
Alnwick opened the scoring with a penalty before extending their lead with a try out wide.
The conversion was missed but Alnwick were 8-0 to the good.
Alnwick deservedly stretched their lead from a good line-out drive. When the initial drive was halted, the scrum-half was alert enough to pick up the ball from the back of the ruck to quickly dive over for the score.

Alnwick scored another quick-fire try to leave Berwick reeling. The try couldn’t have been simpler with some strong running up the wing creating a simple overlap for the support to touch down.

This time the conversion was good and Alnwick were worthy of their 25-0 lead.
Berwick grabbed their first score of the game when a line-out was well controlled and drove over the line.
The conversion was converted to give Berwick some hope in the second half.
After the interval, Berwick managed another try.
The conversion attempt came back off the post, although the hosts had closed the gap to 12-25.
Berwick scored another try, but the kick was missed (17-25). The home side continued to pursue an improbable comeback but couldn’t score again.
Alnwick return to league action on Saturday when they host fifth-placed Rochdale in North One East. Kick-off is 2.15pm. Alnwick have climbed up the table to sixth-from-bottom after two wins on the trot.
