A new sporting event will be launched in Belford this weekend in the form of a fun run.
The event is being held in conjunction with the village show day, and its primary aim is to raise funds for the Belford Play Park Renovation Fund.
The run is being staged on Saturday at noon, and it will start and finish at the Sunnyhills Farm Shop, the main sponsor of the event.
It is free to enter, although donations to the fund will be collected.
There are two courses, measuring four miles and one and a half miles in length, and competitors can either walk or run.
Those taking part are allowed to wear fancy dress if they feel so inclined.
Registration is from 11am at the start, and all runners will need to sign on and collect a run number.
Entrants are also being encouraged to get sponsored for the event, with all money raised being used to pay for new equipment for the play park.
Fund organiser Tracy Bell said: “This is the first year we have held the fun run, and we are hoping it will be a big success. If it proves to be successful, we might make it an annual event.
“We are indebted to Sunnyhills for their sponsorship, and their farm shop and restaurant will provide the perfect base. All we can hope for now is that the weather is good and we get a lot of entries.”
So far, the fund has raised enough money to provide two new pieces of play equipment , picnic benches and additional soft, wet-pour rubber surfacing for the park.
