Alnwick boxer Cyrus Pattinson has fulfilled his pledge to come away from an elite championship in Slovakia this weekend with a gold medal around his neck.

The 21-year-old today added the welterweight title at the prestigious Slovakia Boxing Club Triebel tournament to his GB Elite Three Nations crown, which he won last month, after beating a tough German opponent in the final.

The German’s victories to reach the last two had come against a 2012 Olympic quarter-finalist and the World bronze medallist from Iran, but the determined Birtley Club boxer was up to the challenge.

En route to 69kg gold, Cyrus knocked out the Slovakian representative in the second round of his quarter-final on Friday and gained a unanimous decision against the Czech boxer in yesterday’s semi.

He can now put the disappointment of losing April’s final of the England Boxing Elite ABA Championships to Connor Loftus in Liverpool well and truly behind him.
