Medal: It was a case of the three Rs as the final Medal of the year was played out at Swansfield last week. Not reading, writing and arithmetic but Raymond, Robert and Richard, the names of the top three on the leaderboard. In first place with his best round by a country mile this season was Ray Holding, who shot a magnificent net 65 to beat Bob (Robert) Chalmers and Ritchie Robson who were separated only on countback having both returned scores of 66. The results on the day also decided the Sponsors Cup and The Pacitti Cup, an aggregate of the players’ best three gross and nett scores from the summer Medals. Bob Chalmers’ nett 66 was sufficient to see him secure top spot in the Pacitti Cup, a position which he shared with Keith Richardson with both players’ aggregate scores being an identical 206. In the gross competition, Martin Carss proved too good for the opposition, winning by a full six shots ahead of second-placed Jack Friar and Guy Ridley, both on 223.

October Medal: 1 R Holding 93-28=65; 2 R Chalmers 80-14=66; 3 R Robson 83-17=66.

Sponsors Cup: 1 M Carss 68+72+77=217; 2 J Friar 69+72+82=223; 2 G Ridley 71+75+77=223.
