JN Thompson Putter Stableford: As another month bites the dust, so did about half of the usual field last Sunday, on what was a fairly miserable, drizzly, but nevertheless playable morning for the JN Thompson Putter Stableford. The players who did turn out all had to chase an early 35pts returned by first-off-tee Barry Farrar, a score which earned him third place. Ian Tate carded a similar score and was placed second by virtue of countback on a fabulous back nine of eight straight pars, followed by a single bogie on the 18th hole. Victory, however, went to Russell Cooke, whose 38pts headed the whole field by a full three points. It was Russell’s seventh top ten finish in 12 outings this season and his handicap has now fallen to 13.6 as a result of this latest win. Also worth a mention is Carl Green, who, despite not scoring on seven of the 18 holes, also managed 35pts. As well as being in sixth place with 33pts vice-captain Billy Brown carded the only two of the day and scooped the whole pot for himself. The current standings in the Easyway Order Of Merit are Wayne Belisle ahead on 676 followed by Peter Lewis on 593. Jack Friar is lying in third place on 588 then Steve Barron and Connor Thompson both locked together on 587. Russell Cooke has hauled himself up into sixth place by virtue of last week’s win.
