ALNMOUTH (VILL)

Sunday’s Easter Sweeps League (week four): A very good turnout, in blustery, but fine weather conditions with the course in excellent condition. 1 Steve Lockley 20pts; 2 Davey Trotter 19; 3 Johnny Blythe 18. Everyone may be wondering, even in the middle of winter, was our vice-captain Johnny Blythe wearing shorts? And the answer is, of course he was.

Seniors Easter Sweeps League (week three): Cool but calm weather greeted the 22 players on Thursday morning. In a very tight competition we had a three-way tie for first place, with Bob Hill, Dave Hodge and Geoff Smart all scoring 19 points (and all being docked one shot), fourth Bob Boyle 18; and then four players with 17, Peter Egdell, Bob Stephenson, Ian Blakey and Jackie Ross. After three weeks, the overall leader of the Seniors Cumulative League table is now Geoff Smart with 50pts, followed by Bob Hill, Bob Stephenson and Jackie Ross on 47, then Dave Bayliss on 46. New members would be most welcome at the ‘oldest nine-hole links course in England’.

Just £300pa for a full member to play on a superb, true links course, with vastly improved greens, undulating fairways that drain very well and is playable practically 365 days a year.

Our special offer for new members is still available for a group of four people to join together, then the total will be just £1,000 (ie £250 each for the first year).

ALNWICK CASTLE

Winter League: After some relatively ordinary Winter League placings so far, Duy Lam, the club captain for 2015, decided in week 14 it was time to make a move and his 36 points was enough to beat Brian McFall and Alan Black into second and third places respectively. Interestingly Brian made it a sixth top-10 place in his 12 outings of the winter and thus keeping him at the top of the Zecca net accumulator leaderboard with an aggregate score of 187. Second and third, both with a score of 186, are Kevin Murphy and Carl Green.

Colin Donaldson is now joint leader of the Zecca Gross eclectic, along with Wayne Belisle, with both players on a score of 59, Guy Ridley is poised in third spot only one point in arrears.

In the nett section, it is no change in the top three, with Carl Green still upfront on 61, with Ray Holding and Andrew Dodd chasing him on 56 points. The overall Winter League standings show that Carl still leads the field on 63, with a huge lead of nine, over Kenny Darlow on 52, and John Pentleton and Kevin Murphy further back on 47. The twos pot was scooped by Ray Baston, whose deuce at the 15th hole was the only one on the day, nice one Ray, mine’s a pint.

The club is holding a winter Open 4BBB Stableford Open Competition, for men, ladies or mixed pairs on Saturday, February 21. Entry is only £10 for non members and £5 for members and includes coffee and a bacon roll on arrival, sweep prize money and a nearest the pin prize. Winter League (week14): 1 D Lam 36pts; 2 B McFall 34; 3 AW Black 34.
