Seniors Easter Leagues: With three joint winners this week, scoring 21 points, followed by two others with 20, there has been a significant shift in the overall leaderboard. John Clark, Bob Boyle and Jackie Ross were the winners with Bob Stephenson and Geoff Stancliffe just one point behind. As far as the ‘best four scores to count’ are concerned, Bob Boyle and Dougie Miller leap into joint first place with 80pts with Bob Stephenson moving up to join Peter Egdell in third on 79. Others lie just a few more points behind, meaning that almost 10 members have a mathematical chance of winning this competition. Running parallel is the Order of Merit and this still has Peter Egdell in the lead with 24pts, Bob Boyle moving into second on 21, and Bob Stephenson on 20. Others in close contention can clamber onto the rostrum, but only for the minor placings. But with one week to go, both competitions look like going to the wire. Thursday also included a parallel Skins competition and while Ian Blakey won two Skins, the irrepressible Bob Boyle had four.

Men’s Mitchell Bowl: Unfortunately, the first men’s competition of the 2014 season – The Mitchell Bowl (sponsored by Clayport Jewellers of Alnwick) – fell foul of the poor visibility on Sunday and will now be re-arranged for later in the season.

JW Brown Trophy: This coming Sunday, April 6, we have an 18 hole Stableford – The JW Brown Trophy.

Belford

Nine-hole Twilight Stroll Stableford: This weekend we start our summer competitions with the nine-hole Twilight Stroll Stableford. Members are reminded that the course will be closed this Sunday, April 6, all day for the Northumberland County Foursomes. We now open for meals and Sunday lunches. For reservations, telephone on 01668 213232.

Rothbury

Thelma Lamb Trophy: 1 Julia Stott 34pts; 2 Siobhan Sheehy 30; 3 Linden Smith 30.

Seahouses (L)

Warkowrth

Jack Beal Memorial Trophy: Summer competition number two at the Old Links saw Daniel Cooke capture the Jack Beal Memorial Trophy in cold, windy and bleak conditions. His score of nett 66 held off Jim Allison and John Glass by a solitary shot with the ever-improving Nev Holden fourth with his nett 68. Steve Anderton scooped the best gross with his level par 70 and there were twos for Johnny Morton, John Glass and a spectacular eagle two at the eighth for Jim Allison – heaven knows how in that headwind! This week sees the start of the first Friday eclectic sweep, which is organised by Lt Colonel Nicholson and with sponsors to be announced. More information can be found on the web page.

Scores: D Cooke 79-13=66; J Allison 77-10=67; J Glass 77-10=67 (back nine); N Holden 72-4=68.

Warkworth (L)

Lifeboat Spoon and Medal (Tuesday, March 25): 1 Penny Lewis 93-21-72; 2 Kathleen Dalby 96-23-73; 3 Joan Grey 95-22-73.
