Serginson Cup: The summer season teed off at Swansfield last weekend. The first competition being the Serginson Cup, a 4BBB competition played off three-quarters handicap which was contested by 32 pairs. On a blustery day with chilling temperatures the victorious twosome were the unusual pairing of Barry Farrar and Cyril Jobson who headed the rest of the field by a single point. In second place by virtue of countback were father and son team of Alan and Andrew Dodd; Andrew being one of the many up and coming young stars at the club. Third place belonged to incoming club captain Bob Chalmers and Alan Craigs. Result: 1 B Farrar & CW Jobson 41pts; 2 Alan Dodd & Andrew Dodd 40pts; 3 R Chalmers & JA Craigs 40pts. A moderate payout in the two’s with Brian Hunt, Cyril Jobson and Albert Straughan holeing out in two at the second and Michael Friar, Peter Lewis and Guy Ridley at the fourth.
Competitions: Any members wishing to enter the seasons singles and pairs knockouts or eclectic competitions must have noted the sheets in the clubhouse and paid their entry fees by this Sunday, by 1pm.

Seniors Easter Leagues: In extremely windy conditions, this week’s winner was Dave Hodge (18pts) followed by new member Geoff Stancliffe (17), with Les Aitken (16) in third place. This means that the leader in the Sweeps League is still Peter Egdell (79pts), closely followed by Dougie Miller (78), with a tie for third place between Bob Boyle and Bob Stephenson (77). In the Order of Merit Table, it is also Peter Egdell (24pts) clearly leading the way, with Bob Stephenson (18) and Les Aitken (17) in hot pursuit. There are still another two weeks left for these Easter Leagues, with plenty members still with mathematical chances of overtaking the leaders.
Men’s Sunday League: This week was the final weekend for the Men’s Sweeps League and was jointly won by Peter Clarke and Gary Batson with 22pts. However, the overall winner, with the best four scores was the irrepressible Norman Luke (82pts). In second place was the consistent Bob Boyle (77) and then five members with 75 points, namely George Forman, Bob Hill, Peter Clarke, Adam Scott and Gary Aitken.
Mitchell Bowl: This Sunday sees the first men’s competition of the 2014 season, The Mitchell Bowl, an 18-hole bogey sponsored by Clayport Jewellers of Alnwick. All members are invited to participate.

Competition: The first competition of the season was a three clubs and a putter competition on Sunday. The winner was Nicki Claydon with 33 points, second was Lynne Swan with 32points and third was Glynis Lawson on 29 points countback from Lynne Bannister.

This weekend sees the start of the 2014 golf season at Wooler when Mr Sandy Jeffrey drives into office at 1pm. Could all members playing in the Captain v Vice-captain match please assemble in the clubhouse by 12.30pm. The following day sees Mrs Pat Tatters follow suit with a 1.30pm tee-off. We wish both captains a successful season.
Race night: On Saturday night, the Race Night is being held in the clubhouse with the first race being run at 7pm. A minibus will leave Wooler bus station at 6.30pm.
On Sunday morning, the gents will play a two-man Texas scramble. Could all players please meet at 9.30am for a 10am start.
Winter League: Sunday was the final round of the Winter League with Jamie Bissett coming out on top with 81 points ahead of Dave Hall with 79.
