Alnwick castle

June Medal: Was won by Keith Richardson in what could possibly be described as somewhat testing conditions with showers and blustery winds prevailing. His nett score of 65 was just enough to edge out Peter Lee and Rod Henderson, both on 66, with Peter taking second place on countback. Two shots further back on 68 were Alan Black and Neil Armstrong. The best gross score was a 74 by Martin Carss. The twos club was populated by no less than 11 players who may just scrape enough together for a cup of coffee from their individual winnings. The statistic of the week was that the 17th was ranked as stroke 18 on the day, probably due to the fact that no less than seven of the 11 twos were scored at that hole. In the Nett Eclectic current standings, there is a three-way tie at the top between Lawrie Stewart, Michael Smith and Neil Armstrong all on 56pts and in the Gross Eclectic, Michael Smith and Dan Harrison lead the field on 59 followed by Joe Henderson and Steve Barron both on 61.

Results 1 KW Richardson 80-15=65; 2 PT Lee 77-11=66 (on countback); 3 R Henderson 79-13=66.

Warkworth

The H Roberts pairs competition: 1 The Gray twins were in red-hot form, Paul and Ian once again gelled superbly to haul in a huge 47 points off 3/4 handicaps, a fine achievement considering the rough, wind and fast greens. They also netted the only two of the day to boost their bag. All they missed was the heaviest fish prize. In second place, was competition newcomers Gary Scott and Mel Patterson, a full three points back. They in turn held off a mixed bag on 43 points consisting of Kev Jamieson/Chris Mallaburn, C Chambers/Ken Park, and Ian Pringle/Alan Jamieson. The new Friday Eclectic started last week and this 10-week feast of golf is kindly sponsored by the Old Boathouse. With the last prize pot reaching £150, this enjoyable mini-knock is well worth the effort of entering, with a regular field of around 30 golfers.
