NLCGA Smith-Herbert Trophies: On Sunday, Alnmouth Village Golf Club hosted the NLCGA Smith-Herbert Trophies. This is a Greensomes competition for a lady playing with a junior girl who has a handicap, 14 pairs took part and the winners were Gina and Rosie Belsham (Whitley Bay) 35pts; 2 Jen and Megan Forman (Anmouth Village) 32. The trophies were presented by county president Mrs Anne Herbert. Ten pairs entered the nine-hole competition which was for a lady with a junior girl who hasn’t a handicap. This was won by Carol Mair and Jessica Baker (Gosforth Park Ladies) 18pts; 2 Viv Archibald and Emily Forman (Alnmouth Village) 17pts. The prizes were presented by the county captain Mrs Alison Laidler. It was great to see so many young girls on the fairways and for many of the youngsters it was their first taste of competitive golf.

Alnwick Castle

Northumberland League Super Cup North: A fantastic result for the Alnwick Castle Juniors under the expert guidance of Duy Lam recently saw the lads victorious over a strong Linden Hall team in the North Northumberland League Super Cup. In a nail-biting finish which went right down to the wire, Joe Henderson won 3&2, Jack Friar lost 1down, Marc Friar lost 4&3 and Connor Thomson won 2up. With the match all even it was down to the experienced Joe Henderson who wasted no time in winning a sudden death play-off at the very first hole. Any juniors out there wishing to take up golf, now is the time, please contact the clubhouse for further details of junior membership offers and coaching sessions available. The men played the second Medal competition of the year last Sunday and Dan Swordy edged in front of four players by just one stroke to take the nett competition scoring 69. Guy Ridley had the best gross of the day with a very respectable three over par 73. Only three players out of a 58-strong field managed twos. Claiming the share of the prize pot were Michael Smith, Gerry McInally and Ian Simpson.

Warkworth

The J Beal Memorial Trophy: Karl Dullaghan posted a nett 64 to leave the field trailing. The next three placings were taken by players who had the worst of the wind late on, but they persevered with Paul Gray and Lee Baxter carding nett 66s. A shot behind them was Ken Bailey to take the last sweep prize. There was a twos jackpot rollover with over £100 in the pot. Mark Nick split the prize with Lee Baxter and Alan Hill and they all thoroughly deserved it as the four ‘easy’ par threes played into the teeth of the gale.

Chairman’s Cup: Saturday saw R Lowrey 35 points finish one point ahead of D Crisp 34pts.

Sunday saw R Lowrey continue his good form to win the three-club competition with L Johnson taking the runner-up spot.

Ladies April (Stableford): Heather Allan took the spoils with 39pts and Pat Tatters runner-up with 36.
