The four players who shared the spoils of the twos club were Iain Wilson, Barry Farrar, Martin Carss and Brian Hunt.

Hodge Cup: Gareth Pearson put together his best round ever (his words) in winning the Hodge Cup on Sunday. The seven-handicapper (as was) made the most of the favourable conditions to card an excellent gross 68 for a six-under 61 and a three-shot victory.“I hit the ball well, chipped and putted well and made a few good up-and-downs,” he reported. He mixed three gross birdies with four bogeys and 11 pars and was out in one under 33 and back in two over 35. Gareth, 26 next week, has been a member since he was eight. It was his second victory of the season – and a memorable one to boot.

Leading returns: 68-7-61 Gareth Pearson; 86-22-64 Keith Anderson; 70-5-65 (on last nine) Richard Nelson; 79-14-65 Ken Blake.

Invitation Day: After the fantastic turnout for the Joe Shotton Memorial Trophy at the Old Links it was deja vu as a full field contested. A beautiful day gave way to rain, thunder and fog but it was here come the Hendersons as father and son duo Rod and Joe squeezed home with 45 points. They were one ahead of Wayne Gair and Michael Smith in the points but eight behind in the pints race as Joe’s driving and Rod’s scrambling paid dividends. Also on 44, were C Brown and partner who lost on the back nine. Longest drive was Cookie Lewis on 13 with Peter Fay and Daz being the most accurate at six and 10. The course was once again the star although one particular four-ball spent the best part of five hours enjoying it, thereby holding up the whole field.

Autumn Medal: This extra competition was won in fine and controlled style by Jayden Hindhaugh, whose 40 was three clear of Pete Holleran, Michael Marley Thompson and Ian Gray. Just goes to show what a bit of course management and fine short play can do on a tight and demanding layout.

Scores: JA Hindhaugh 40pts; P Holleran 37; M Thompson 37; I Gray 37.
