News and results from clubs around north Northumberland

Alnwick Castle

WEEK 19 of the Winter League was contested by no less than 46 golfers on a beautiful sunny morning. However, a biting north wind in the exposed areas of the course provided a reminder that spring isn’t quite upon us yet.

With 39pts, Kevin Murphy took maximum points and closed the gap on Wayne Belisle at the head of the Order of Merit.

Michael Bell’s second place on the day saw him leap no less than nine places to seventh spot.

Like Michael, Duy Lam also had 37pts on the day but was third on countback.

There then followed two players also separated by the same rule. Tim Pearson making a rare but welcomed foray into the top four and Phill Ginger, whose fifth place on the day helped by two birdies in his round – one notably at the stroke one third hole kept him in fourth place in the overall points.

Three players carded a two in their round – John Pentleton at the second hole, Tom Greaves at the fourth and Peter Lee at the 15th.

Things are really hotting up now with only three weeks remaining to decide the final Order of Merit table for the winter season.

Results – Winter League (Week 19): 1 K Murphy 39pts; 2 M Bell 37pts; 3 D Lam 37pts. Order of Merit Table: 1 W Belisle 94pts; 2 K Murphy 85pts; 3 T Greaves 74pts.
