Alnwick

A WINTER season of competitions came to a close last week with the traditional three-man Texas Scramble.

In fine weather with just a hint of a breeze the result was as follows:

1 B Farrar, B Hunt & R Cooke 64-3.1= 60.9; 2 G Dobson, D Swordy & G McInally 65-2.3= 62.7; 3 K Smith, T Lang & B McFall 68-3.2= 64.8.

The club was also involved in round two of The Daily Mail Classic knockout competition last weekend and pulled off a fine three matches to two victory over classy opponents Bamburgh Castle Golf Club.

The full result was as follows (Alnwick names first): J Pentleton beat T Thompson 5&4; G Taylor beat J Woodman 4&2; M Bell lost to M Thompson 2down; K Richardson lost to P Holmes 3&2; S Barron beat M Dawson 6&5.

Just a final reminder that the AGM will be held tomorrow in the clubhouse at 7.30pm. The club’s new caterer Melanie Collins will be there to provide canapés and to meet the members.

The Ladies section have arranged the first social event of the year which will be a Quiz Night on Saturday, April 2, at 7.30pm in the clubhouse.

The price will be £6 per head and will include a buffet provided by the new caterer and there will also be numerous different prizes to be won.

THREE Club Competition: 1 Eileen Clark 101-18=83; 2 Joy Henderson 103-18=85; 3 Maureen Day 115-29=86. Thelma Lamb Trophy: 1 Mary Tully 31pts; 2 Joy Henderson 29; 3 Julia Stott 28.

ON a cold damp morning with the course shrouded in fog, it was somewhat of a surprise that so many good scores were recorded in the latest round of the Seniors Winter Eclectic competition. Trevor Rutter once again in splendid form took this week’s honours.

Results: 1 Trevor Rutter 26pts; 2 Jack Maitland 24; 3 Dave Angus 24; 4 Mike Walne 24.

Members are reminded that the Captain’s drive-in takes place on Saturday, at 1pm, incorporating a three-person mixed team Texas Scramble.

Wooler

A REMINDER that the 2011 season kicks off this weekend. Saturday sees incoming captain Peter Patrick take on his vice-captain Les Johnson in the annual match. Please meet at the clubhouse at 12.30pm.

Sunday sees Barbara Williamson drive into office against her vice-captain Alison Hilton, meeting at 1pm.
