Heavy rain and wet, water-logged pitches meant that a number of cricket fixtures involving north Northumberland sides had to be cancelled on Saturday.

However, a few were able to go ahead, although the results may have left some wishing they hadn’t played.

In the Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League, Division A1, Alnmouth & Lesbury I fell to two defeats in two as they were beaten by 110 runs at Ashington.

Batting first, the hosts posted a solid total of 240-6 from their 35 overs, in large part thanks to 113 from Anirudh Singh.

The wickets were spread around the Alnmouth attack with Russell Hughes taking two for 43, including a caught and bowled.

In reply, the visitors lost regular wickets with none of the batsmen until number 10 Edward Whyte able to get into the 20s. They finished their 35 overs on 130-9 with Paul Rutherford taking an impressive three for 13.

In Division A2, Alnwick Seconds also lost on their travels, by 78 runs at Seaton Burn.

The home side were put into bat and proceeded to score 190-4 thanks to a half-century from Malcolm Alderson and an unbeaten 72 from Ryan Irving-Carr.

In reply, Alnwick’s opener Daniel Graham scored 39, but received no support with three of his teammates getting ducks and another four single-figure scores.

In the Northumberland Cricket League, Premier Division, Tillside I’s victorious start to the season continued as they beat Clara Vale by 38 runs.

The north Northumberland side were put into bat and scored 125-7 off 25 overs thanks to 71 from Liam Hindmarsh.

It was then down to the bowlers to do their business, which they did in style, bowling the hosts out for 87.

Pick of the bowlers was Jake Birkett (3-28) and Cameron McGregor (3-25). Calum Bickerton took two for seven.

In Division Three, just one match beat the weather with Embleton beating Gateshead Ethnic Minorities by eight wickets.
