A commemorative boat-fishing contest has raised thousands of pounds of charity.
This year’s Bob White Memorial Competition attracted 143 people and collected around £2,470.
The money will go to St Oswald’s Hospice, in Gosforth, and Amble RNLI, which was on standby during the event, in July.
Held out of Amble, the annual competition is in honour of Mr White, who was owner of Amble Angling Centre and died at St Oswald’s Hospice in 2005.
The competition attracts people from far and wide.
Gary Allen, from Amble, was the winner with a cod weighing 13lb 8oz. Second was former Amble man Dave Chapman, now in Newcastle, with his cod of 8lb 8oz.
The junior winner was Cody Armstrong with a cod weighing 6lb 7oz and the ladies winner was Ruth Armstrong with a cod weighing 3lb 13¼oz. Both are from Amble, as is David Dunn, who received the wooden spoon for his boat breaking down twice during the competition.
Thanks to everyone who supported the event and gave generously. A presentation will be held in the town’s Schooner Inn on August 17, from 7.30pm, where a St Oswald’s representative will receive the money.
