Northumberland and Tyneside Senior Cricket League, Division A1

Chasing an imposing total in Division A1 of the Northumberland & Tyneside Senior Cricket League, Alnmouth’s firsts eventually lost by 29 runs.

Batting first, Pont posted a challenging total thanks to 86 from opener Wayne Ritzema, 64 from Paul Lindsay and a 20-ball 50 featuring four fours and five sixes from Iftikhar Fazal.

Edward Brunton returned the best figures for the Seasiders with 3-52 off 11 overs.

In reply, Alnmouth recovered from losing Tom Vickers for 24 with the score on 36 to post another 120-odd before losing a wicket.

Paul Straker scored 78 and Callim Batey 53 and there were additional scores in the twenties, but later wickets dropped too quickly and the division’s debutants fell short. Common, Ritzal and Ritzema all took three wickets.

Despite a century from Backworth’s Michael Race, Alnwick managed to sneak a three-wicket win in Division B2.

But in reply, half-centuries from Daniel Graham (58) and Andrew Scott (53) plus 48 from David Forrest helped Alnwick across the line with three wickets in hand, but just three balls.

A generous 30 in extras also helped the Northumbrians’ cause.

l In Division B2, Alnwick’s second side fell to a 139-run defeat at Burnopfield.

Batting first, the hosts posted an imposing 239-4.

In reply, Alnwick lost early wickets cheaply and while Harry Lobb (34) and Andrew Wright (24) steadied the ship to some extent, the visitors finished on 100-9.
