Alnwick 1sts suffered a 25-run defeat when they were beaten by Seaton Burn in the Northumberland and Durham Senior League at the weekend.
Alnwick won the toss and elected to field.
Seaton Burn lost some early wickets and at 44-6 they appeared to be struggling on a wicket which suited the bowlers.
Their only decent contributions came from opener Andrew Jennison on 21, Aaron Shackleford who hit 24 and tail-enders Craig Redpath (32) and Andrew White (29 not out) who put some meat onto their score.
In the end they were 144-9 after 50 overs, and that seemed a reasonable target for the Alnwick batsmen.
Michael Kirkup was the pick of the Alnwick bowlers, claiming 5-27 in a good 12-over spell.
But the Alnwick bats themselves struggled to cope on a wicket which was not for yielding runs.
The first wicket fell with 22 ion the board, but with Daniel Graham their top scorer on only 21, Robert Green adding 18 and David Forrest 14, the runs weren’t exactly flowing and by the time they reached 96-8 it was obvious they were unlikely to reach their initialtarget.
At the close of play they were 119 all out in the 49th over.
Shackleford took 5-34 off his 12 overs with two others claiming two wickets apiece.
