Alnwick bounced back from last week’s defeat in Yorkshire to sneak a home victory against Old Crossleyans this afternoon.
At Greensfield earlier today, a topsy-turvy clash eventually saw the relieved hosts reach the final whistle 15-14 up.
Despite playing with the wind, Alnwick conceded first as the visitors went over for a converted try. A Bird penalty was the only response before the half-time interval (3-7).
After the break, a tap penalty on halfway saw Ellis make good yards before Gray went over under the posts, which made the conversion easy for Bird (10-7).
Alnwick then looked to have guaranteed the win when Todd made a double break after good work from the pack to score in the corner (15-7), but possession kicked away saw the visitors strike back to ensure a dramatic finale (15-14).
