Alnwick RFC 34 West Hartlepool 19

Alnwick Rugby Club battled back from behind to secure a 34-19 North One East victory against high-flying West Hartlepool this afternoon.

The Greensfield side, who went into the clash sitting fifth-from-bottom, had been 12-14 down at one stage.

But they showed great character to turn the fixture on its head and secure their third league win on the bounce.

Shell scored two tries while Hamilton, Warcup and Todd also touched down for the Northumbrians. Bird added extra points with the boot.

To add extra gloss to the win, Alnwick secured a bonus point against a West Hartlepool side sitting third in the table before today’s match.
