THE highlight of Saturday’s programme was unquestionably the top-of-the-table encounter between leaders Berwick and Wooler.
It ended dramatically with honours even, Wooler being all out off the penultimate ball of the game with the scores tied on 190.
A brilliant catch low down by Finlay McCreath was a fitting finale to an entertaining match.
Tim McCreath top-scored for Berwick with 49 in their total of 190-5 while Andrew Aitchison put Wooler in sight of victory with a fine 68, only to see the last wicket go down with one ball remaining and the scores level.
Embleton beat neighbours Rock in a match reduced to 40 overs due to a sudden rain and hail storm.
Richard Alsept (61) and Paul Carss (48) were the mainstays in Embleton’s total of 189-7 while Roddy Bell (75) led the visitors’ fight-back, though it ultimately failed by 30 runs.
Warenford maintained their challenge with a commanding seven-wicket win against Howick, while Alnmouth and Lesbury recorded a 48-run victory over Tillside.
In the day’s remaining game, Warkworth crashed to a seven-wicket defeat at Mitford after being bowled out for 52, Scott Lawson claiming five for 11.
