Alnmouth & Lesbury U13 (146-3) v Ashington U13 (58-8)
Alnmouth and Lesbury U13s were in cup action on Sunday, playing their ECB County Cup quarter-final against Ashington, and were victorious by 88 runs.
In glorious sunshine, Alnmouth elected to bat first and, despite losing two early wickets, played with a great tempo, looking for quick singles and punishing any bad balls.
Both Olly Tulip and Joe Tudor retired having score d 30, Tudor’s final shot being a huge trademark six.
There were also useful runs from Nick Robertson (20no) and Ben Kelly (15) as Alnmouth posted a challenging 146 for 3 from their 20 overs.
Robertson, in particular, showed his pace and quick-thinking by taking a string of quick singles.
Any real hope that Ashington had of chasing down the total evaporated when Matty Crawford, one of their key batsman, was bowled second ball of the innings by Cameron Thorpe.
After that, it was a steady procession of wickets for the enthusiastic Alnmouth youngsters who looked sharp in the field.
Tom Harrop, Matisse Richards and Dan Phillips all took two wickets for very few runs, while Harry Milham was also a wicket-taker.
To give Ashington credit, they dug in and batted out their full 20 overs finishing on 58 for 8 and George Collins carried his bat for a well played 25no.
Alnmouth and Lesbury now face Blagdon in the semi-final later this month.
