Alnmouth & Lesbury U13 (66-4) v South Northumberland U13 Blue (65-7)
After the disappointment of their first defeat of the season last week, following a below-par performance against Corbridge, Alnmouth and Lesbury faced a tricky home game on Sunday against the powerful South Northumberland Blue in the Northumberland Junior Cricket League, U13 Premier League.
Alnmouth were up for the challenge though, putting on their best bowling and fielding performance of the season, restricting South Northumberland to 65-7 from 20 overs.
George Lindley, Cameron Batey and Nicholas Robertson all bowled well, conceding 20 runs between them from 12 overs.
Olly Tulip once again showed great promise as a spin bowler by taking three wickets.
Only Cameron Burke managed to cut loose, hitting 30.
Alnmouth got off to the worst start possible with the bat when poor calling resulted in Lindley and Archie Elder both being run out in the second over, and it wasn’t long before the hosts found themselves further in the mire at 25-3.
But Joe Tudor showed he had nerves of steel, hitting a valuable 29 – including 22 in boundaries – to take Alnmouth close to victory.
His crucial cameo came to an end when he was caught just inside the boundary, but it left Batey (8 not out) and Tulip (2 not out) to guide the hosts to a six-wicket victory.
It was an important win for Alnmouth who stayed top of the table with four games to go.
Next up, Newcastle CC.
