Alnmouth fight back to claim win

Alnmouth and Lesbury U13s v South Northumberland

An excellent fielding and bowling display helped Alnmouth & Lesbury U13s secure a 15-run victory against a strong South Northumberland Reds side.

Having been asked to bat first, the hosts made a slow start against accurate bowling. The first five overs produced just 11 runs.

Openers Archie Elder and Olly Tulip started to force the pace before they were both dismissed for 17. Alnmouth lost two wickets through run outs and Joe Tudor was caught on the boundary for 22.

The middle order contributed little, leaving the score 84-8. But Cameron Thorpe and Harry Millham played delightful shots against county bowlers, enabling Alnmouth to finish on 105-8. It proved to be a match-winning partnership.

In the run chase, Parth Mannikar and Ben Scott both scored 30 before retiring and at 78-1 after 14 overs the game looked to be going away from Alnmouth.

But excellent fielding and bowling resulted in a dramatic collapse, as five wickets fell for 12 runs.

Spinner Lukas Robinson claimed two wickets, both stumpings by Archie Elder, and there were two run outs as panic set in.

The visitors managed just 11 runs from the last four overs and closed on 91-6 to leave Alnmouth victorious.
