The North Northumberland Under 13 Cricket Festival was keenly contested on Sunday with four teams taking part in the new format tournament.
After each team had played each other in six-a-side, five-over innings matches, the top two teams – Tillside and Alnmouth Beachboys – battled it out in the final.
Batting first, Tillside scored 35-3. Good accurate bowling at the start by Joe Tudor and Olly Tulip helped keep the score down.
In the Alnmouth run chase, Nick Robertson and George Lindley started well, both retiring for 15 and after Joe Tudor was out to a good catch, it was left to Archie Elder and Tom Harrop to see Alnmouth home, to take the festival trophy.
In the plate final, Lesbury Lions had the edge over Warkworth.
All in all an excellent afternoon, some five hours of fun, with a mixture of big hitting and quick singles in a format that was a great success. Unfortunately the recent rain led to the cancellation of the Under 11 festival at Alnwick on Sunday as the pitches were too wet.
