Aiming to net recruits

REGISTRATION and induction for new young players gets under way tomorrow at Alnmouth & Lesbury Cricket Club.

The club has over 100 junior members between the ages of seven (Year 2) and 15 (Year 10) and regular training takes place on Friday nights between 6pm and 7.30pm.

A number of teams are coached, covering a range of age groups.

The juniors had a very successful 2010 with the U15s finishing as county champions, the U11s winning the North Northumberland Cup and the U9s winning two local festivals.

The club has strengthened and increased its coaching team for 2011 and, following the award of a Sport England grant, it is also able to offer young players subsidised one-to-one coaching during the season, carried out by the club’s most experienced coaches.

New players of all age groups are welcome, especially new players to strengthen the U15 team (Year 9/Year 10) and any youngsters interested should come along to the club tomorrow at 6pm to find out more.

After a brief talk by Bill Batey, junior coordinator, and Rob Woods, north Northumberland cricket development officer, there will be an opportunity for a free taster session.

No equipment is necessary.

For further information, contact Bill on 07971 810267 or Mark Brunton on 07989 445576.

In the event of wet weather, the introduction and registration evening will still go ahead.
