Alnwick Premier Darts League
In Division B, the local derby at Alnwick Working Men’s Club saw the A team shade the game by 4-3 over their C team bar rivals.
It was all-square after the singles but the A team took both pairs to open up a 4-2 lead before the old heads of the C team fought back to take the team legs and a 4-3 final score.
The battle of the basement teams saw an equally tight match, with Alnwick Golf Club A and Shilbottle B all-square after both singles and doubles rounds, with the golfers making home advantage count when they won the team legs and the match by 4-3, leaving both sides locked on 19 points each.
The Hotspur bounced back to fine form when they beat the Market Tavern by 6-1, to keep themselves in touching distance of runners-up spot. The Market’s solitary point was won in some style by Bill Bradley and included a brilliant 135 check out of 60, 25 and the bull.
But once again, the Shilbottle A team proved themselves to be division favourites when they comprehensively beat a very unfortunate Oddies A by 7-0. The Oddies fought magnificently throughout the night and were very unlucky in many legs but the Shilbottle men hit the all-important winning doubles.
In Division A, the Bottles Boys narrowly lost at home to Alnwick Working Men’s Club B by 4-3, and the George also went down at home despite a 180 and a 113 check-out by captain Jimmy Kelly but it wasn’t enough to prevent his side losing 6-1 to the Bottles A.
TeamDinga and the John Bull fought out another legendary battle which seems to be the hallmark whenever these teams play each other. TeamDinga won 4-3 on this occasion with some superb darts in every leg by both teams, no one deserved to lose.
With now only one point separating the Bull, TeamDinga and the Bottles A, the competition for the runners-up spot in Division A is as keenly contested as ever as The Travellers kept an ever-increasing gap at the top of the table when they beat the Oddies B by 6-1.
