A seven-wicket victory to open season at home

Ryton II (73) v Alnmouth & Lesbury II (77-3)

Northumberland and Tyneside Senior Cricket League, Division B2

Alnmouth & Lesbury II started their season with a seven-wicket home win against Ryton.

On winning the toss, the home skipper Brunton had no hesitation in asking the visitors to bat first against bowlers Batey and Neil.

With the winter’s fitness training reaping immediate dividends, Neil made early inroads into the Ryton batting order by taking the first two wickets.

Change bowlers Robson and McDonnell continued the good work and Robson claimed the wicket of top-scorer Fordham thanks to an excellent running catch by Batey.

Supported by Marshall’s tight bowling, McDonnell ran through the visitors ending with figures of 4-24 and Marshall 3-5 in only 29 overs.

In reply, the home openers Robinson and Courtney got off to a steady start taking the total to 45 when Robinson was caught for 16.

Further wickets of Courtney (26) and Poole (four) fell before all-rounder Neil finished the game with a flourish by hitting successive boundaries.
