A champion day at the castle course

Bamburgh Castle Golf Club

A memorable day at Bamburgh on Saturday saw two national trophies on display and a notable championship double by a club stalwart.

The British Amateur and Scottish Amateur Strokeplay trophies came to Bamburgh courtesy of two fine victories by the club’s Garrick Porteous.

Garrick, 23, brought both trophies home to Bamburgh, where he first played as a boy of four, and spent time for photographs with members.

On the course, veteran Peter Sanderson was plotting his way to a ninth club championship with rounds of 67 and 69 for a 36-hole total of 136 and a seven-shot victory. Peter also won the Victory Cup for the best nett by four shots to complete the double for the second time.

Coincidentally, Peter has won the club championship every odd year since 2005.
