Wooler Running Club
This weekend proved to be a busy and successful one for Wooler Running Club with 10 members competing in two different races.
On Sunday, seven members took part in the Loch Ness Marathon. Simon Curry was first back for the club with an excellent pb of 3:31:22, followed by Harry Porteous who completed his 35th sub-four-hour marathon in 3:48:43. Club chairman Donald Pearsons finished in 4:23:26, followed by Maxine Lock, with a staggering one-hour pb of 4:26:13, then Carrie Armstrong in 4:26:22. Nathalie Revell and Victoria Curry completed their first marathon in a superb 4:32:46.
In slightly less pleasant conditions, three club members participated in the Redcar half-marathon. With strong winds reported from miles 6 to 10, the relatively flat run proved to be more of a challenge than expected, though good performances were put in by all. Pauline Aitchison put in yet another fast time and won her category in 1:32:29, followed by Nick Johnson, who got an excellent pb considering the conditions with a time of 1:38:57, and Alison Wright finished in 1:56:45.
A spokesman for the club said: “Overall, it was a fantastic weekend for a small club and well done to all who ran for doing us proud.”
