TALENTED sporting stars from around Alnwick district are to be awarded for their 2009 heroics.
On Saturday, January 30, 2010, the Alnwick Playhouse will host the Alnwick and District Sports Council Annual Awards Night.

Swimmer Nick Gillingham MBE – a double Olympic medallist, world champion and world record holder – will be the event's guest of honour.

For more than 10 years, the prestigious ceremony has been one of the highlights of the area's sporting calendar, celebrating the success and rewarding the achievements of the cream of our sporting scene.

To ensure the standard is kept high and to recognise the achievements of local sports stars, starlets and teams, the Sports Council needs your 2009 nominations.

And once again, the Northumberland Gazette has teamed up with the council to help with nominations.

Nominate online by visiting www.activealnwick.co.uk

The closing date for entries is January 15.

But that's not all. Making a return for the third year is the Northumberland Gazette Sports Personality of the Year award.

Only one person can take the gong, as voted for by the public, and follow in the footsteps of previous winners, autocross British champion Michael Henderson and boxing coach Keith MacDonald.

A star-studded shortlist will appear in the Gazette soon.
