Kevin Keegan has confirmed Stephen Carr and Peter Ramage will leave St James's Park this summer in search of first-team football.
The pair are both out of contract at the end of next month, and while Ramage was offered a new deal, Carr – whose Newcastle United career has been plagued by injury – was not.

Right-back Carr is understood to be interesting Celtic, while Wolverhampton Wanderers will head the list of sides looking to sign centre-half Ramage, whose last season at the club was wrecked by the cruciate ligament injury he suffered in August.

And the 24-year-old, having missed so much football over the past year, believes he must reluctantly call time on his United career as Keegan could not guarantee him first-team football next term.

Keegan said: "We wanted to keep Rammy, but he wants to play regular football, and I couldn't guarantee him that here. He and Stephen Carr go with our best wishes."
