Newcastle United will take on Hertha Berlin and Real Mallorca in a high-profile pre-season tournament.
The club has confirmed participation in the Mallorca Summer Cup at the ONO Estadi, Palma.

And boss Kevin Keegan will also make an emotional visit to his home town, with United playing their first game at Doncaster Rovers' Keepmoat Stadium on July 26.

Newcastle will also travel to Victoria Park for the second pre-season running on July 19 to take on Hartlepool United, while a home game against La Liga side Valencia on August 9 has already been confirmed.

But it is the Mallorca tournament on August 1 and 3 that will capture fans' imagination, and United will have a strong following on the holiday island. Newcastle are no strangers to the ONO Estadi, having been drawn against Real Mallorca – currently the subject of a takeover bid from ex-Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd – in the fourth round of the UEFA Cup in 2004, when Sir Bobby Robson was in charge.

United ran out 3-0 winners at the 23,000-capacity stadium, thanks to two goals from Alan Shearer and another from Craig Bellamy.

The game also saw Steven Taylor make his first-team debut, while playing for Mallorca that night was Samuel Eto'o.

The format for the tournament, which also features Hannover 96, is three points for a win, one point for a draw, while teams will also be awarded an extra point for each goal scored. Any matches that finish level after 90 minutes will be decided on penalties.

Newcastle also hope to arrange a fixture for either August 5 or 6.

Ticket details are yet to be announced, and the club are asking fans not to contact the box office with enquiries about pre-season fixtures at this stage, as staff are still processing season-ticket renewals.
