A TOP triathlon event is again set to take place at one of Northumberland's most beautiful outdoor attractions next month.
The 2008 One Life Standard Distance Triathlon – last year crowned as the North East Race of the year – is being held at Druridge Bay Country Park on Sunday, September 14.

The event, as part of the Get Active Northumberland Festival, will be a Mazda National Ranking Event and European Championship qualifier with £4,000 in prize money up for grabs.

The race, part of the Northumberland Triathlon Festival, is becoming an increasingly popular and high profile event.

The challenge is a 1500m swim in the park's Ladyburn Lake, a 40km cycle on a new lap circuit on closed roads and a 10km run, which will entail three laps on tracks around the lake. The course will be electronically timed.

And that's not all. This year, the Northumberland Triathlon Festival will take place over two days.

On Saturday, September 13, a day before the triathlon, there will be a Children's Duathlon (run, cycle and run again). This will take place on closed roads around the park with races of various distances to cater for different ages.

Paul Jones, a member of One Life, the largest triathlon club in the North East, is organising this year's race. He said: "Last year, we attracted entrants of all ages and abilities – novice, veteran and elite – all competing in the true spirit of the sport and we are once again very much hoping that entrants of all abilities will come along and compete at this fantastic venue."

The Triathlon Festival is being organised by One Life in association with Northumberland Sport, British Triathlon, Culture Creative and Druridge Bay Country Park.
