STUDENTS from DFM Kickboxing showed true grit when they sparred their way through their gradings.
Eight students took part in the examination, held at the Willowburn Sport Centre.
First they had their fitness levels tested. Then the pupils demonstrated their efficiency at a range of punching techniques.
After the combinations came time for the final but most important section of the gradings, sparring. Under the watchful eye of DFM instructors the students each fought at least twice under points fighting rules.
The instructors were looking for good displays of technique, combinations and ring craft. DFM Instructor Darren Currah said: "Despite a few early nerves the students settled quickly to the task at hand and impressed the examiners with their determination and skill."
Next month the club will be competing against students from the Advance Fighting Centre, Newcastle, in a light continuous bout. Later in the year there will be a return fixture held in Alnwick.
The kickboxing club meets at the Willowburn Sports Centre every Wednesday from 7pm. There is also a kickboxing for fitness class and combat kickboxing class held at Belford Middle School every Monday from 6pm.
The group also runs a martial arts class teaching in a mixed fighting method at St Michael's Hall, Canongate, Alnwick, every Friday night from 7.15pm.
