FIVE of Alnwick's DFM Kickboxing students fought through their examinations to win their new belts at Willowburn Sports Centre.
First they had to demonstrate their fitness levels with repetitions, sit-ups, press-ups, skipping and squats.
They were then judged on their kicking and punching techniques against focus pads and kick bags.
It was then time to demonstrate their fighting skills with rounds of continuous sparring. The instructors were looking for good displays of ring craft, technique and flowing combinations.
Experienced Lisa Williams fought two four-minute rounds against two separate fighters to win her purple belt, while Nicola Allan, Steve McLaughlan, and Scott Norris, pictured, won their green belts by fighting two three-minute rounds under the watchful eye of DFM Kickboxing instructor Darren Currah. Terri Hopper passed her yellow belt with good displays of sparring.
Darren said: "The students demonstrated good levels of fitness and showed determination throughout their examinations.
"Overall it was a very good grading. I'm pleased with their progress."
DFM Kickboxing club meets every Wednesday at Willowburn Sports Centre from 7.15pm. The group also teaches a Tai-jutsu based combat method every Friday at St Michael's Hall, Canongate, Alnwick, from 7.15pm.
