FORMER champions Bamburgh recovered from their shock 11-1 first round defeat away to Magdalene Fields A with an 8-4 home win over Berwick A in round two.
In the top match, England Boy international Garrick Porteous beat Phil Swinney 3 and 2 to give the home side a much-needed boost.

Bamburgh have ground to make up after their dismal start and much will depend on early season results as to whether they can again mount a serious challenge for the title.

Alnwick have an excellent record over their home course at Greensfield and this was enhanced when they 'whitewashed' Alnmouth Village – a big blow to any title hopes the visitors may have harboured.

The home side's 12-0 victory took them to the top of the table by one point from Magdalene Fields A who beat their fellow B side 9-3.

Warkworth picked up nine points away to Seahouses while Burgham Park went one better with a 10-2 home win over neighbours Percy Wood.

Title holders Linden Hall edged out Alnmouth (Foxton) 7-5 in the closest match of the night.
