MORPETH SUNDAY LEAGUE

THE rain played havoc with the fixtures for a second week in a row as only four games took place across the league.
The only Division One match saw bottom side Blackthorn Rovers fly out the blocks early and take a 2-1 lead into half-time against Choppington Travellers Rest.

But the Travs turned it around and ran out 6-3 winners with goals from Andy Young (2), Mark Miller, Sean Taggart, Dale Wilkinson and Scott Marshall. The hosts replied through Mark Race, Craig Robinson and Craig Appleby.

Sporting Club of Morpeth are starting to put a good run of results together in Division Three and won 7-1 at home to basement club Village Inn Longframlington. Scott Sherrington grabbed four goals with Darren Percy (2) and Mark Jewitt completing the rout. Andrew Armin scored a consolation for the Village Inn.

Block & Tackle lost 3-1 at home to Base FC Ashington in the day's only other league encounter.

Division Three side Newbiggin Bankhouse caused a mini-upset in the MKM Challenge Cup Round Two as they defeated second division opponents Bedlington Station Railway.

It was an entertaining game that ended 3-3 after extra-time. Bankhouse then held their nerve to win 5-4 in the penalty shootout.

Elsewhere, first division side Red Row Brick Club eased into the third round of the NFA Minor Cup with a 5-2 home win against Cramlington Benedictine.

Shaun Black (2), Ronnie Warwick, Michael Conroy and Ben Milburn were Red Row's scorers.
