Felton FC 12 North End Trap 0 (Division Four Cup Final - Sunday, May 4, 2008)
FELTON FC have clinched a league and cup Division Four double in their first season back in the Morpeth Sunday League.

Already crowned league champions, Felton continued their blistering debut season with a ruthless 12-0 win against North End Trap
Broomhill, in the Division Four Cup final at Craik Park.

A five-goal haul from hitman Tom Vickers inspired Felton to glory, while a hat-trick from Mark Cockburn – one a 20-yard beauty – and efforts from Garry Flynn and Sean McKay heaped more misery on the Trap.

A brace from top-scorer David McCann helped him increase his season's tally to 29 league and cup goals and helped complete the rout.

Reflecting on his side's destruction of the Trap, Felton's manager and secretary Jon Snaith, beamed: "The scoreline didn't flatter us and it could have been more.

"Tony Brown was man-of- the-match but it could have been any one of four or five players.

"I think we were just too good for them but I think that comes down partly to the fact that they haven't played for five weeks, which probably affected them, whereas we have had some competitive fixtures."

But Jon, who had seen his side race into a 4-0 lead after just 21 minutes, paid tribute to the beaten finalists.

"Fair play to the Trap. Their heads never went down and they played for the whole of the 90 minutes without giving up," he said.

The 12-0 triumph also helped the Division Four kings keep alive dreams of a prestigious treble.

Felton, who folded a number of years ago, face Division One champions Lynemouth on Sunday, May 18, in the league's prestigious MKM Challenge Cup Final.

Double-winning Felton have already derailed higher league opposition to tee up their second final of the season and Jon is confident his troops can land the treble.

He said: "We had a couple of players who didn't play in the game, such as Robert Cockburn and Ben Keenan, so we will be stronger for the Lynemouth challenge.

"The game is there to be won. We certainly won't be overawed and we will give it a good go."

Jon also thanked Malcolm from the Stags Head for his help over the season.

The 12-0 defeat was a harsh end to a fine season for the Trap who had managed to finish third in the league and reach the final in what was their debut year.

Speaking after the game, Trap manager Keith Morley admitted: "Felton were just too good for us. They were fantastic.

"But I was proud of the team, they never gave up."

Although the result wasn't the fairytale finish to a stunning debut MSL campaign, Keith said: "We have got a lot of 16-year-olds and players in their late 30s.

"We pulled a team together six weeks before the start of the season.

"I was devastated with the result but to play in a final in our first season, especially against a side like Felton, was brilliant."
