Alnwick U11s win at Gosforth Festival

A THREE-year trophy drought for Alnwick U10s competing in the Gosforth Festival ended on Sunday.

They played the home team first and four tries by Evan Moir and one each by Harvey Nesbitt and Fraser Boldy brought their first win.

Next up, Percy Park were defeated, with two tries by Boldy and one by Brett Williams.

Then came a 2-2 draw with the old foes Northern, Michael Walton and Boldy scoring.

Alnwick were through to the semi-finals as group leaders and encountered Tynedale, who seemed to have the physical advantage, but the Alnwick boys manfully took up the challenge going through 3-0 victors thanks to tries from Tom Nesbitt, Harvey Nesbitt and Boldy.

The final was a re-match with Percy Park.

Alnwick took the lead through Daniel Straughan only for Park to equalise, then Evan Moir danced through the opposition to regain the lead only for Park to score once more, but Alnwick's ball skills came good, resulting in a great try by Straughan to seal the victory.

All 12 boys played well throughout and went home delighted, as were their parents.
