Alnmouth Utd...1 Shilbottle CW...4SHILBOTTLE progressed to the final of the Laidler/Lancaster Cup when they finally got the better of a stubborn Alnmouth side at the Golf Course on Saturday.
The first opportunity fell to the C
olliers when Scott McMullen broke clear only to be foiled by a fine save from Ian Elliott in the Alnmouth goal.
The visitors were shocked when Alnmouth took an unexpected lead after only 10 minutes' play when Mike Robson forced the ball home from close range.
The Colliers dew level after 20 minutes when a pin-point cross from Andy Metcalf was met by Karl Chapman to find the net from 10 yards.
Jamie Black should have put the Colliers ahead shortly after but was robbed by an Alnmouth defender as he was about to shoot into an empty net.
However, they did take the lead shortly after when a hand-ball in the box presented Scott McMullen the opportunity to shoot home confidently from the spot and give his side the advantage at the interval.
The Colliers improved after the break and had the bulk of the play.
Good opportunities fell to Karl Chapman and Kevin Elliott but both shot over the bar.
The lead was eventually extended after 70 minutes when a good run by Kevin Elliott set up Scott McMullen for his second goal, and another good move saw Ross Jackson pick his spot for Shilbottle's fourth goal five minutes from time to see the Colliers comfortably through to their third cup final of the season.
