NEWCASTLE United's alleged interest in rising Turkey star Arda Turan would appear to be all but over.
United had been linked with a possible move for the 21-year-old before Euro 2008.

However, outstanding performances by the winger have led to a host of clubs knocking on his agent's door.

And now his representative, Ahmet Bulut, appears to have all but closed that door to Newcastle after claiming the player "will play in Italy" next season.

Arda currently plays for Galatasaray, but goal-scoring and man of the match performances for his country at Euro 2008 have left him with a host of clubs eager for his signature.

Now Corriere dello Sport says Juventus and AC Milan want the player, whose value has risen from around £6m before the tournament to a reported £15m now.

Bulut told the Italian sports newspaper: "There will be a decision next week when the European Championships have ended and we will reveal all then

"A lot of clubs have contacted me about Arda, even though the asking price for him has risen.

"Milan and Juventus are both interested and we will start speaking about things on Monday.

"However, I confirm that next season Arda Turan will play in Italy."

The high profile performances from Arda in the Austria/Switzerland tournament are a further blow to United's rebuilding programme.

Russia's Andrei Arshavin, who was a Newcastle target as early as last January, is another who is now out of the Toon's transfer league.

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder has also starred at Euro 2008, and he appears destined to move from Zenit St Petersburg to a Champions League club, with Barcelona his preferred choice.
