Re/Max Northern Alliance, Premier Division (Wednesday, August 27 2008).
A DRAMATIC last-gasp Tony Brown strike capped off a stunning fight back from Alnwick Town last night.

The St James' Park side battled back from 3-0 down to level the scores in the 88th minute.

Brown fired in from the edge of the box to grab a point for the black 'n' whites.

Bryan Murray began the fight back before substitute Ben Keenan scored from the spot to give Alnwick a vital lifeline. And with two minutes left on the clock Brown struck.

And it was nothing short of what Alnwick deserved.

The hosts bombarded Blyth Town's goal throughout the 90 minutes and were unlucky not to snatch all three points.

But things started badly for the home side with Blyth's Christopher Taylor putting the visitor's one-up after eight minutes.

Alnwick could have levelled, but for two last ditch tackles from Blyth's Michael Robinson.

And the hosts were denied what looked to be a clear penalty when Brown was chopped in the box.

Moments later Ben Webster thought he had equalised for the hosts but his goal was disallowed for a foul.

Blyth capitalised, striking twice within five minutes. Hitman Patrick Allen scored the first of two goals after 39 minutes, lifting the ball superbly over Alnwick keeper Brian Brooks.

The pacey number 11 then broke clear of the defence and slotted the ball neatly past Brooks for his second, putting Blyth three-up before the break.

Cue Alnwick's fight back.

Murray grabbed Alnwick's first after 66 minutes. Blyth keeper Scott Earle's punch fell into the path of Murray who cooly lifted the ball over the stranded keeper.

Alnwick could have made it two but Webster saw his fizzing volley crash against the post.

The hosts did double their tally in the 82nd minute. Substitute Ian Common was failed in the box by Nathan Lajevard and Keenan slotted home from the spot.

And with just two minutes remaining Brown riffled an effort from the edge of the box to grab a well-deserved point for Alnwick.

Alnwick face Wark on Saturday at St James' Park. Kick-off 2.30pm.

Alnwick Town: Brian Brooks, Bryan Murray, Neil Catlow, Gary Bailes, Ross Young, Tony Brown, Scott McMullen, Ben Webster, James Swordy, Richard Brown, Paul Yeadon. Subs: Ben Keenan, Craig Henderson, Ian Common, James Lang, Andrew Tate.
